Baptism

Like Newly Born

“For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” Galatians 3,27

Are you considering whether baptism is your next step? Here are a few thoughts on what baptism means for us at ICF Hamburg:

We believe in a God who loves you unconditionally and desires a personal relationship with you. The beginning of this relationship is a conscious decision for Jesus. Baptism is a visible sign of this decision. Through it, you express that you’re entrusting your life to Jesus, that you want to follow him, and that you’re starting a new life with him.

The Bible describes the meaning of baptism like this:
“For through baptism your old life has come to an end; you were buried with Christ. But you were also raised with him to a new life…” (Col 2:12).

When you align your life with God’s ideas, it will shape your life and the people around you.

Step by step, you can discover what God has in store for you, how he carries you, and where he invites you to trust him and take bold steps of faith.

That’s why the Bible invites every person to take this step: “Repent and turn to God… Let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ, so that God may forgive your sins and you may receive the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 2:38).

Attendance at the preparation meetings is mandatory for our baptisms.

Basically, you don’t need any special knowledge or a long lead time for baptism – in biblical times, this was often the first step of faith people took after inviting Jesus into their lives. Nevertheless, we do encourage you to prepare well for your baptism. We offer preparation meetings for this, which you attend online.

We recommend attending Get Free as the ideal foundation for preparation. It focuses on you and your relationship with Jesus, and how you can live with God in every area of life. Your Get Free companion can also be your baptism companion. Good options for this could be your Small Group or Team Group leader, or you can think together about who else might be a good companion for you.

If you’re not yet part of a group, we recommend signing up for our Erlebe Gott (Experience God) faith course, so you can experience God together with others.
