More than 300 volunteers have been rehearsing for over a year to make the free Christmas show on December 2 and 3, 20 23 a great experience. The performances can be viewed on site at the Showpalast München or live online at youtube.com/icfmuenchen.
Every year, Christmas hustle and bustle floods the streets and squares. There are presents to buy, Christmas parties to plan and trees to decorate. It is easy to lose sight of the deeper meaning of Christmas: God’s love for people, which is shown in the birth of Jesus.
Over 300 volunteer dancers, actors and musicians therefore draw attention to this message in a unique Christmas musical theater on the first weekend of Advent. With a great deal of humor, creativity and passion, they take the audience on a journey into a kind of musical that gets to the bottom of the meaning of Christmas. The audience itself is part of the show and can look forward to 90 great, moving and interactive minutes at the Showpalast München, Hans-Jensen-Weg 3.
Before and after the show, an atmospheric Christmas market with various delicacies awaits the audience in the outdoor area of the Showpalast. The events take place on Saturday at 19:00 and on Sunday at 11:00, 15:00 and 18:00. They are free of charge.
Due to the expected large crowds, especially on Sunday, an optional seat reservation via www.christmas-experience.de is recommended. Alternatively, the show can be followed live online on Saturday evening and Sunday morning at www.youtube.com/Icfmuenchen. On Sunday at 11:00 and 15:00 there will also be childcare and a translation of the play in various languages. Further information is available at www.christmas-experience.de or www.icf-muenchen.de.
The mammoth “Christmas Experience” project of the ICF Munich free church is taking place for the third time. Some of the staff are professional artists, but the majority are volunteers from various Christian churches. It is a Christmas miracle in itself that such a large, diverse group of volunteers comes together and rehearses a play Sunday after Sunday for months, before presenting it to thousands of spectators on the first weekend of Advent. The artists are motivated above all by the shared vision of using creativity to make God’s love for people tangible.
This year, the performers tell the story of Piet Werdig, an arrogant and superficial host of a Christmas reality show, who unexpectedly hosts the profound old Joseph of Nazareth and his wife Mary and comes to understand the deeper meaning of Christmas.
This story is embedded in a colorful, humorous play with lots of Christmas magic and deeply honest moments. Dancing candy canes, a boy group band jamming to Christmas carols and cute little Christmas elves conjure up Christmas romance on stage. Mary and Joseph make the audience laugh when they tell their extraordinary love story. The next moment is a deeply moving moment: the inner turmoil of the presenter becomes visible through wrestling and fighting dancers. The audience grasps the struggle between childlike faith and renunciation of religion that rages within the presenter.
The audience can look forward to a particularly magical moment when the lights in the auditorium go out and hundreds of light-footed angels with glowing wings illuminate the room from the darkness. Elaborately staged stage sets, which are shown on the largest LED wall in Europe, bring the audience up close to the action. They are motivated by showmasters and entertainers to actively participate in the play and can look forward to a magnificent light show at the end. The unique Christmas experience is rounded off by the lovingly designed Christmas market on the forecourt of the Showpalast.
